Next week will happen and this time I think we should Attempt the Advisory Mailings.  Same reading as previous post, all that fun stuff.  (God, I am so not cut out to be a co-head).

God Time [Nov. 8th, 2005|07:45 pm]

Okay folks, if we have philosophy club tomorrow (and I'm not sure we will given that it's a Wednesday-Friday because of the long weekend), the time has come.  We're doing God (sort of like John Donne; it's a whole new level of spiritual experience.  Wait, that wasn't funny nor did it make any sense).  Because I frickin' feel like it.  Reading is Bertrand Russell's essay "Why I am not a Christian".  If not tomorrow, then next week (in fact, I'm not sure I can lead at all because I have some packing to do for my college-visit filled weekend, and O'Conner might have some parent-teacher conference shit to deal with).

[Also, shit, that means that Connie has to read that essay in more detail than a brief skimming.  *cowers and returns to homework*]

As you know if you went to club this week, our discussion got a bit volitile and chaotic.  It's great that the topic empassioned us (to the point where voices were raised and I started walking on the tables...) but there was a level a) tangenting and b) rigidity of ideas and c) talking over each other resulted in a series of events that some of us think was counterproductive to the purpose of Philosophy Club.  And what about the Socratic method?  What is our goal in discussion?  "Let's agree to disagree" is one of my least favorite phrases, but it's something that we could consider in a little greater detail.

Anyway, we're thinking about having a co-head only meeting next Wednesday to discuss purpose of discussion in general, the purpose of Philosophy Club, and how that can better to be facilitated in general.  Hopefully some level of structure combined with a realistic outlook will lead to some general improvements in the club.

This is just to say [Sep. 27th, 2005|11:40 pm]

that tomorrow, due to acute first semester senior stress and because variety is the spice of life and because it's actually a flawed, though thought provoking documentry, we will be showing the film What the Bleep Do We Know?
